Couch Remote for Samsung TV is an iPhone app with an Apple Watch app. It controls a Samsung Tizen TV from 2016 or later over your home network. It opens on the last TV you used. It has a touch surface or a D-pad, volume, power, apps and typing into the TV's text fields.

We built it because a TV remote should open at once and stay connected. There is no server of ours and no account. The App Store privacy answer is Data Not Collected.

Not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Samsung. Samsung is a trademark of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

## We talk only to the TV on your network.

The app finds the TV with Bonjour and sends keys over the TV's own secure WebSocket. Volume goes over UPnP, and the TV is woken with Wake-on-LAN. Nothing goes through a server of ours.

## We check the TV's identity before we send the key.

Every TV of this make shows the same certificate, so the certificate alone proves little. The app accepts only a known key and the key saved at pairing, and it refuses redirects. Before it sends the pairing token, it checks that the TV's id, model and MAC are the ones it paired with.

## We keep the key on the iPhone, never on the watch.

The pairing token lives in the iPhone's Keychain, on that device only. The Apple Watch gets no token. Its keys go to the iPhone, and the iPhone sends them to the TV after the same checks.

## We made the Digital Crown move the volume one step per detent.

The level on the watch moves at once. The TV gets the newest target, not a queue of old ones.

## We cap every long press at two seconds.

A press that is never released repeats on the TV. We measured it, and one such press took the volume from 13 to 100 in five seconds. So every press ends in a release, when the finger lifts or after two seconds at the latest.
